FAQ - How do I transfer positions from one brokerage account to another?

Question

How do I transfer positions from one brokerage account to another?

Answer

To move positions from one brokerage account to another within your GainsKeeper account, go to the Import or Manually Record Trades page on the GainsTracker tab by clicking the Record Trades link. Once the Import or Manually Record Trades page displays, select the appropriate category in the Manually Record your trades for section. For example, to transfer shares for a stock, click the Stock icon. The Stock - Record Buy Transaction page displays by default. Once this page displays, do one of the following:

You will need to transfer each position individually. Transferring your shares will create a transfer out record in the old account and a transfer in record in the new account. Your trade history prior to the transfer will remain in the records for the old account and all activity after the transfer will be recorded in the new account. You will not be able to delete the old account or change the account type without first removing all transfer records.

Note: If you are transferring an entire account to a new broker account, you should not record a Transfer transaction. Instead, you can relink your account by clicking on the yellow lightning bolt of the account, and clicking on the link at the bottom to relink to a new brokerage.
