Export to TaxAct

Considerations

Use this page to export Form 8949 or Schedule D information from GainsKeeper.

Procedure

  1. Online and Desktop users can import through the Q&A for Investment Income using the radio buttons (not the dropdown list). Click on Federal Q&A or Site Map, select Investment Income, Gain or Loss on Sale of Investments. Then select GainsKeeper.com import. On the next page, you can select Import Now, or click on GainsKeeper.com to obtain additional information.

  2. Desktop users can also click on File on the tool bar, select Import, and then select GainsKeeper Data.

Each transaction imported from GainsKeeper will create a separate 1099-B. It is the 1099-Bs that generate the Form 8949 for your Tax Return.

If you have new transactions to import, it is possible to download just those new transactions from GainsKeeper without having to make any changes to the existing 1099-Bs on the Schedule D.

If you have updated transactions, you have the choice of updating the 1099-B directly on TaxAct or your can delete the individual 1099-B from TaxAct and import the updated transaction from GainsKeeper.

TaxAct will not advise you if you have downloaded duplicate transactions, creating duplicate 1099-Bs.
