Fractional Shares

Considerations

A corporate action that changes your share amount often leaves you with fractional shares. Brokerages remove these fractional shares by selling them at market rates. This sell is known as a 'Cash-in-Lieu' sell. To remove the fractional share amounts from your holdings, record a sell transaction for the fractional share amount with proceeds equal to the amount of money your brokerage deposited into your account for the 'Cash-in-Lieu' sell.

Procedure

To view holdings that may be missing a 'Cash-in-Lieu' sell from the Check-Up page:

  1. Click Show next to the Fractional Shares alert. The Check-Up: Fractional Shares page displays. The table displays those holdings that may be missing a 'Cash-in-Lieu' sell.

  2. Remove the fractional share amounts by recording a Cash-in-Lieu sell transaction
