FAQ - Trade Date

Question

What is the trade date?

Answer

On your brokerage trade confirmation you will see a few different dates listed. When you record your transactions in GainsKeeper, use the Trade Date. This is the date your order was executed. The Settlement Date is the day that money moves. If you purchased stock, the money is removed from your account on the settlement date and if you sold a stock, you would receive your proceeds on this date. For tax purposes, the date of execution (trade date) is the relevant date.
